Protein cereals are all the rage and every week seems to see a new option appear on our shelves. An important ingredient here is extruded protein crisps (whether soy, pea or whey), which give the  crunchy and crispy texture we love. So let’s look at some of the brands using extruded protein in protein cereals.

As well as the smaller, independent brands you'll notice that even the big cereal brands are hopping on extruded protein train.

The fact that big brands are doing this makes us wonder if it's the brand people are buying instead of the product itself. But when we compare the big brands to these smaller brand examples, we can't help but feel that the smaller brands are doing extruded protein cereal better.

Body Genius offers a dark chocolate protein crunch cereal in a cool Mason jar package (44g of protein per 100g).

Magic Spoon sells a cheerio-like cereal in a range of flavours and includes 12-14g of protein per serving. You can buy all the flavours in a variety pack.

Catalina Crunch also sells a variety pack of different flavoured cereals that are reminiscent of mini Weetabix. Each serving contains 11g of plant protein.

Spacies is another high-protein cheerio-esque cereal packed with a whopping 38g of protein per 100g. The space theme is great, too.

Three Wishes brings us a grain-free high-protein cereal, again following the cheerio style. Each bowl contains 8g of protein.

Weetabix sells a wholegrain wheat protein cereal. Two weetabix contains 12g of protein.

General Mills also offers a high-protein Wheaties cereal in a honey pecan flavour (21g of protein per serving).
